Breakthrough #1

My first breakthrough exercise, was the 'stairs shoe-tying exercise.' I used to agonize over trying to get my shoes on every day. It was terribly painful trying to reach down and get them on, much less to tie them.

It got so bad, that my girlfriend actually had to tie my shoes for me most days … and that was a little humiliating...

But one day, something just ‘clicked’ and when walking up the stairs one day – I just lowered myself down onto one knee with the upstairs directly below me – and effortlessly and painlessly untied and then re-tied my shoe!

Why was this significant?

Because then I looked at every movement I made differently.

Because, by supporting my lower back with my knee, I was able to do something with ease, which previously had previously caused me daily pain and discomfort!

After that, I imagined how I could support my lower back with every movement. By doing so, it gave my back some relief – at least for long enough to start exercising again, and ultimately moving towards my complete recovery...

Breakthrough #2

The next major breakthrough, was to use the stairs for hamstring stretches. The side of the bed worked equally as well.

Previously, doctors had me in physical therapy – trying to stretch my hamstrings while lying on my back, and ‘pulling’ the leg up with a tied bed-sheet around my heel.

This always put pressure on my bad SI joint, which pulled at my disc, hurt like hell, and I believe did more damage than good.

By now using my own body weight, and by being able to slowly lower my weight onto my leg stretch (using the handrails), it made it much easier and virtually pain-free.

The best part was, after one or two good 10 minute stretches – I felt better than after all the expensive medical ‘procedures’ and pain-killers combined...

After 30 days of doing these stretches, and my own exercises which I’ll tell you more about below... I was pain-free and had re-gained my life back!
